Hard Rocks… Geology Anyone?

I’m slowly sprucing up the photos section of my site. Trying to simplify it, yet keep it fairly interesting. Seems to be working cause the amount of visitors to my site has skyrocketed.. averaging around 6 people per day. Wanna see?

Yesterday the “water taxi” came humming down my canal… I thought to myself “here’s a good way to move furniture.” I mean, I used to live on a different canal, I want to transport furniture, I want to avoid traffic and the busy center of the city… so WATER TAXI. (need the number? 535-6363. At least I hope that’s how it works, othewise perhaps that was just a guy who bought the water taxi and rides around with the old paintjob and phonenumber on his boat.

In the last 24 hours in Iraq, 102 people have been killed. Soldiers that have died are now more than 500. Iraqi’s who have died… that number is above 1,000.. I haven’t checked Back to Iraq lately, great blog from an excellent journalist in Iraq. I don’t know how much more death people need to see before they realize this mission is bullshit and it is anything but a success. Speaking of which, I was reading Salam Pax’s Blog (Iraqi in Baghdad) and I rather enjoyed this quote “I do think Iraqis should worry about the presidential elections in the USA, it is scary how much influence someone sitting so far away has over the destiny of a nation.” So strange to live in Iraq these days, I imagine. I highly recommend him, by the way, Salam Pax.. he’s an excellent writer and you learn amazing things about the reality on the ground there.

I started doing conversational meetings with someone from Paris. We meet and switch back and forth… she speaking English and me speaking French. It’s really great cause I haven’t had intense, long conversations in French in a long time. Actually I should get involved in a larger project of conversation exchange, that would be awesome… someone in French, English, Spanish and dare to dream-Arabic. I can see it now…..

Opium and Soup

So hey, I think the new site is really taking off! It should be lookin good, cause I haven’t done much else these days… it’s a shame. Slowly more travel photos will be added, Im especially lookin forward to the flashback to OCG days that Im throwin in. Speaking of flashbacks,

it appears that Afghanistan’s opium production is nine times higher than it was under the Taliban.. which once again illustrates how Afghanistan is a disaster and far from stable. NO, Im not saying the Taliban were better, I’m saying that they went from one type of bad to a different type of bad.. it’s still a bad situation, yet politicians act like it was a huge success and everything is great there now.

I’m sitting at Soep enzo today, as I do so often.. cause hey.. where else, besides my house, will I eat such thick and hearty soup! I even splurged today and went for the Fish Soup with Shrimp. (veggie yes… cept I do eat seafood) Anyway best part are the lovely ladies eating soup and reading the newspaper. I love them.. probably because they’re that perfect blend of quiet, mysterious, current-events conscious, soup eating… yeah.. all the things I want in a woman.

They seem like the type of women that would no doubt share my horror at reading that Blair and Bush were nominated for Noble Peace prizes in 2002. Bush and Blair!! Peace prizes?? That’s insane. Martin Luther King… Mother Teresa… Xanana Gusmao.. these are pious and kindhearted figures who get nominated. Bush and Blair… please. Do the math.. how many people died both home and abroad, on their watch? pfffff… noble prize… please.

NEW NEW AND NEW

Well– what you should be looking at is a new beginning… that is.. provided it’s working. I know most of the menu options aren’t active, but otherwise… this is the new look. Why? Because I still wasn’t happy with the last design.. too dark.. still too complex. This is more my style. Photos and Articles will be up and working soon enough. Now the blog will be the centerpiece… and I intend to write both about my life and current events… YES BOTH IN ONE. Check back often, cause I’m plan to publish pretty much every 2 days or so. So here’s a sample:

Today I discovered a new source for funding in order to persue my PHD in something Journalism related. The discovery comes thanks to a dear friend and a Portuguese Newspaper – ? Publico. This basically renews my hope for continuing my academic life. I’m hoping to focus my research on journalism on the web, weblogs and other means for rebelious communication. Furthermore let me spread rumors… I’m not ruling out doing a PHD somewhere in Scotland or.. dare I say it.. in the MidWest of the United States. Trouble is.. I might go nuts in the midwest… so that move is a bit more unlikely.. but still… never say never.

Tonight I rented In This World for me and Mart to watch. Excellent Docu-Drama… All about the trek that immigrants make from Afghanistan to the UK. It’s very powerful.. and at times.. quite beautiful. Makes me promise myself to go to Iran.. and soon! It also makes me want to go to Istanbul soon… which is more likely. Haven’t been doing nearly the traveling I want to…. but I will.. and soon.

A civil war is brewing in Haiti… so I won’t be going there anytime soon.. unless as a journalist. It’s a sad situation… popular elected president who hasn’t been able to effect any real change. I don’t believe anyone could in that situation… this “New World Order” keeps Haiti poor so other nations can reap the benefits of cheap labor… amongst other causes.

My mind is on Moscow.. and the subway bombing. It is, from what I hear.. a beautiful subway. Not to take away from the wonderful people who have been so effected by all this.

Inquiry… Who Believes this shit?

So W announces he’s “concerned” about the intellegence reports on WMD’s that he based his invasion of Iraq on. Therefore he creates a independent council. You know, a few of his pals to examine his own lies. And then of course his shoe-shine boy, Tony, does the same thing at Downing Street. The whole process stinks. It’s like the fox being appointed to guard the chickens… or Dupont being named director of the EPA during the Reagan admin. Obviously he’s not going to enforce ant strict standards that would hurt his business. Same goes for Bush’s investigation, he named the team, so obviously he’s not going to select someone who will find him guilty of fabrication and fraud on a mass scale.

Fact is this man lied about a matter of national security.. better yet.. international security. We’re not talking about a blow job here… we’re talking about blowing up an entire country! Every day more soldiers and civilians die in what they like to call a “war.” The whole reason they are there has been proven false… it is, as it always was, an unjust occupation under a false pretense. Most of he world as well as the US knows this, the question is, when will the moronic majority wake up to this awful truth. Relection they say? They should be worrying about him going to jail!

Sick Process Makes Sick People

It’s interesting that the cattle and poultry industries choose to play so innocent when things like BSE and Bird Flu hit. With their practices of loading up their animals with antibiotics and other fattening drugs, their factory-farms that create the worst of conditions for an animal to exist, and their obsession with cutting costs and corners in order to make for profit… why are they surprised? It is a basic formula. There should be more bird-flus, and of you notice, more and more.. we are seeing these types of mass sicknesses in response to the mass industry irresponsibility.

Primaries and Caucuses

Add it to the pile of evidence proving what a poor quality democracy the US has… the Iowa caucuses and the forthcoming primaries. So let’s see… Gephart loses Iowa… a farm state with a population of very few, and he pulls out of the race. So now when primaries come around to California or South Carolina.. those people can no longer choose that candidate… they lose the right to vote for the rep. of their choice.

Furthermore does anyone know what happens in a caucus? Its not going in and voting.. you walk into a room and you debate with other delagates/party members about who you choose. As was appropriately mentioned on WUSB’s Off The Wall radio show , this makes it highly unlikely someone who likes Al Sharpton will walk into an Iowa caucus and shout.. “I love reverand Al!” They might fear getting their butt kicked, so they choose the more popular candidates. Once again, this isn’t democracy, it’s some sort of cabal to intimadate you and keep people out.

What does it all mean? Just a reminder of how horrible the electoral system is. In case the selection of GWB wasn’t proof enough.
