That Roll

For those who may be wondering, my next podcast will arrive on sunday. I’ve held off this week for numerous reasons, including fighting off Pod Fatigue (other peoples, not mine), letting people catch up, been travlin’ within the NL, and had visitors!

Gotta mention fun times in Enschede (east of the netherlands)at a blogger dinner with such friends as Miss Mathemagenic, Anjo, Carla, Ton, and of course the visiting Steph “thesumofmyparts”. Cool conversations, fun people, though I felt myself definitely the non-academic blogger, and beyond that — scarey do admit — I start to identify myself more and more as a podcaster! Isn’t that odd? I mean, blogging is my bread and butter, but suddenly podcasting has become my passion. Scarey.

And so now I’m showing Sweden’s infamous blog researcher around Amsterdam this weekend. A bit of biking, walking, restauranting, and minimal tourism. In our conversations, which are filled with blog-knowledge-nerdness, we’ve debated the importance of the blogroll. (list of links on your left) She has said that they don’t mean much, and most bloggers don’t read everything in their roll. To which I responded, SAY IT AINT SO?!

Every single blog in my list matters to me, friends. Or else I wouldn’t have it there! And let me add this, if I’ve blogrolled you and you haven’t shown me the same respect and added me, I won’t make a big fuss, but I consider it extremely rude. I will go as far as taking blogs OFF my list if they don’t link me after months or years of having been linked. Ediqette friends… I believe in it. And if I link you, it’s because I want to show my respect and also compliment your work which appeals to me. So I gotta insist, links in the margin do mean ALOT to me.

Dutch Easter

The ranch is like a ghosttown on easter weekend. Amsterdamers tend to run off to family to enjoy the four day weekend. While hardly anyone is religious, they of course love their easter weekend here. Everyone wishes everyone a happy easter, but I like how its got nothing to do with some dude popping out of a cave with holes in his hands.

Recently alot of international students have been coming up to me at the fishtank to say “BM, I finally saw the PASSION ….. usually I think they’re talking about some B-Porn film.. but then I remember that whole jesusy film. I then ask them what they thought of it (still havent seen and dont care really) to which I’ve heard a very similar response from each and every one of them — “What a piece of shit film! I hated it. I found myself yelling at the screen, GET ON WITH IT… GET ON THE DAM CROSS.” I find it funny cause so many have said that exact line. They usually add a complaint about the specific scene in the film where hanging jeebus looks down on his mum and says something like “WOman, look upon your son.. bla bla bla” and the complain is always “Who calls their mom, WOMAN? What kind of bullshit is that?” Guess JC was a bit of a bastard towards him mom.

Anyway, how did I get onto this film? Oh yeah Easter… happy fucking easter. My easter wish, brace yourself: I hope the pope dies. YES – I said it, just to see if the vatican secret service will come to my door and bop me in the head with a cross or maybe the swiss guard will hit me with a staff or something. I love their pajamas.

Oh, go listen to the latest Sloeriesource and you’ll hear me in dutch for most of the show. Ive been listening to it and its trippy to hear yourself speaking dutch, trust me.

Funked Up

You figure after a super fun trip to a mac nerd conference with none other than DucSloerie and FashionSloerie of the Sloeriesource podcast, nothing could bring me down. The show itself wasn’t a huge deal, it looked like the senior prom at Apple High, where Steve Jobs would be our principal, and our basketball team would probably have a going rivalry with the St.Micrsoft High School team.

And while it was neat to see all the I-this and I-that’s, my favorite part was getting to finally hang with the infamous podcast duo. And just like with many bloggers I have met recently (or not so recently) it was like meeting people you’ve known for years and years. Which also made it not so wierd when both DucSloerie and myself are walking around the event with Irivers around our necks and microphones attached to our shirts. At some point a guy comes up to us and asks if we’re podcasting, and as I introduce myself he says “oh, I knew your voice was familiar. I liked your soundseeing of the red light, albert cuyp…” – I’m famooose, you see.

Unfortunately no matter how known I may or may not be, I can’t seem to get a very important piece of consumer electronics smuggled out of the San Fran area. I’m dyin. Plan A died early on. Plan B croaked amidst much drama and some good samaritans. Plan C doesn’t exist. Is there any kind reader in the Bay Area that is making a journey to Amsterdam? I swear I’ll cook you dinner, give you bike, tuck you in at night, shine your shoes… Ill even dedicate blog posts to you. That’s almost as good as poetry!!? I’m serious, this shit is making me miserable…

Only this wonderful xtx story can make me feel better. or dirty. either one is good.

In the spirit of changing things up, this is a special show about a vry personal journey; how and why I moved from New Jersey, to Portugal, and the to the Netherlands. Not my usual style, lots of talking. Music to accompany different stages of my journey, and flickr photo highlights for you to follow, of course.

Banking WorldStyle

The minute I heard Paul Wolf-Man-o-Witz was nominated by little bush to be the head of the world bank, I looked outside to see if pigs had taken flight. I checked on Drudge to see if hell had frozen over, cause he would know about that first. Then I asked the internets if maybe the wolfman had some experience working in international development or finance, other then planning and making wars, the internets gave me a blank stare. This called for a stiff glass of vodka, swedish of course.

Maybe you didn’t know. Maybe you don’t tend to worry about these things. Or perhaps you’ve come to expect this type of stupidity from this government, and well, let’s face it — a world that is full of political stupidity. But me, not only did I get concerned since the WB provides important fundage which hopefully helps developing countries get on their feet, but I also thought about my dear Blueberry Girl, who would find herself working under that war-criminal. *shutters* But hey, no surprise to see my dear friend and her co-workers getting together and giving a collective F you to the nomination. And if I were them, I’d declare a general strike if he gets the job. Good luck running the ship you know nothing about without a staff.

I can only imagine the new policies he would bring with him… more of that puritanical neo-fascist insanity; no funds for governments that recognize gay marriages, or the right to have an abortion, or don’t agree to invade random countries. You figure this group of rich old men already rule most of the world, why do they need MORE power?

Hey, on the visiter Tote-Board, the mighty mighty Bronwyn is in town. I cooked dinner for her and a friend tonight, couscous ala BM — recipe forthcoming, whenever I get to it. I think I’m not allowed to mention her business in Europe.. it’s very hush hush and high profile. Anyhoo.. it was cool to meet a blogger that I have been corresponding with and reading since way back when.
