Hi Richard! thanks for commenting. Indeed even I try to carry myself as a very informed and committed to equality person and I felt uninformed about this case. But jeffrey and others have helped alot to fix that. I would love to see or hear Mayor Sanders.. ugh I wish it were all being recorded. I guess maybe we can read the text one day?

Thanks for covering this story. I think explaining the situation with the federal case and the history of anti-gay ballot initiatives in California and elsewhere serves an especially good purpose since your audience is international. It is very interesting to me to hear that Jeffrey has ultimately decided that it is not in the best interest of the same-sex marriage movement in California to push for a ballot initiative repealing Prop 8. His initial support for 2010 caused me no small amount of reflection. My gut reaction to the 2010 push was, "Not again!" The 80 million dollar cost, which you mentioned, of the last ballot fight was one of my chief concerns.

By the way, I live in San Diego and must say that I'm very appreciative of my mayor, Jerry Sanders, who testified in the ongoing federal trial on behalf of same-sex marriage. It's not often I get to say that about a Republican.
