I always remember the student center in college, ALWAYS a credit card table... enticing you with a shirt, hat, beer mug or some other garbage to sign up for a credit card.. That table always had people signing up at it.

The reality is that here, they just don't care if you can't pay it... they prefer if you can't. It would seem that in Europe... they may actually care about the consumer?

Boa Noite!

@blondebutbright I didnt even know you could ask for a specific limit, I would have tried similar. As my income continues to fluctuate, I always wonder if they will take mine away. So far so good. Ever try purchasing property in this country? Im curious about that to some extent.

I had a similar experience - a couple years ago, upon starting my first part-time job here in NL, ABN refused to provide me with a credit card because they decided my salary was too low. And I was only asking for a 500 Euro credit limit! I'm definitely a fan of learning to live without credit as an option. It's served me well.

It is definitely way too easy to get a credit card in the U.S. I'm surprised they aren't advertising to kids in middle school yet (along with the camel joe ads). If the U.S. would adopt stricter guidelines, like those you've come across, it would help fix some of the financial issues the country is having.
