bm288 Genetically Modified Sugar

December 5, 2008

Out in the Northwest of the United States, one very important crop is sugarbeet, source of 50% of the nation’s sugar.  Over the last few years, genetically modified sugarbeet has been planted by some beet farmers. This has left many other farmers concerned and upset at the side effects both short term and long term as a result of this GMO crop.  Kari Lyderson is a journalist who has been following this issue. She went out to see just what is going on with sugarbeet in the Northwest and joins me for this podcast to explain the topic, the players, why this is happening and the many layers within this issue that effects our sugar.

Thats one thing to do. I was thinking go more organic. Or maybe just embrace honey as your sweetner.
