It's about how tourism, climate change, politics and personal interests are "fighting" agriculture and water availability on a nation wide level. Never heart about this kind of problem in Europe before. Scary, interesting and a reminder of some problems Isreal/ Palestine and many other countries had for decades. In the case of california.. and Im clearly far from properly researched on this, but my initial look tells me that its more than the cost of labor.. its much more about the extreme pressure put on the land that is unsustainble.. most immediately in the area of water. Huge crises are predicted as the current system is ripe to self-destruct. more on that soon. During your video I gathered a couple of questions and thoughts that came into my mind. For many local citizens and cities (taxes) there will be a massive or total drop in direct revenue. The newly created distance between manufacturers and consumers opens the "opportunity" for global player to fill the gap and basicly control the market in a dimension unknown before. Therefore, in my opinion, the need for people to relocate and possibly relearn for another job is a small price, compared to what will result on the rising dependency on the global market (besides the apparently implications e.g. weak dollar, crashing stocks, high oil prices -> disproportionate high prices for food imports). If the agriculture is partially considered unfit or simply seen uneconomically at the current state, it will take a long way and a lot of investments to reverse the process of moving out of California. It goes without saying, that exporting labor mostly goes hand in hand with partially loosing the ability to control the process. In this case there will be a loss of control over the cultivation (e.g. used chemicals) and the overall quality of the product. In the end we shouldn't forget the implications for the land importing the "service". Most certainly the lands are allready used and will be more extensivly exploited in the future with less strict supervision (slash-and-burn). Btw. was the video done with your new cam?
