As a person that is of the left.. I hate being associate with the right-wing democratic party.. but the two are always being lumped together, especially lately. alas.

P.S. Democrats are about as left as UK's Labour.

Ie. not very much.

So lumping the left with the Democrats is a bit silly no?

So John Aravosis thinks the gay rights struggle was because of Hollywood? Is he joking?

Newsflash John: there is more to the political spectrum than liberals vs conservatives; it took Stonewall and activism to make people in Hollywood still reeling from McCarthyism feel confident to put gay people in shows; it took visibility for them to argue 'we're only reflecting society'. It took marxists and pissed off drag queens and socialist/direct action; I know this is a dirty word in the US but it did, especially in the example I know best the UK which was pushed forward by in part by the International Socialists and the GLF - who did you think organised the protests?

John needs to learn some history. Maybe keep quiet on things he obviously knows nothing about until he does?

Otherwise he just comes over as ridiculous, and I switch off from what else he says, which might be valid.

I do my best never to mention LLM because his values and mine have nothing to do with each other and generally.. we've got different priorities. There are alot more details to that dinner that obviously back then John didnt write about but the point of this podcast was not specifically France nor Sarko nor LLM. Clearly from this podcast you can see we have different styles and different values as bloggers and activists. However, what I like about John in the blog realm is that our ultimate goals do intersect, human rights, quality of life, and ultimately -change. But yes.. obviously the how to go about that change.. we're different.

Excuse me if I find it a little hard to listen to a guy like Avarosis who goes to a dinner party at Loïc Le Meur's house where he has a chance to talk to Loïc about working with Sarkozy, French/American policy, Bush, etc. and writes instead about what the wives were wearing!!!!

He's a bullshitter. Doesn't even mention Le Meur's closeting and the pervasiveness of closeting in the French political scene in general. An issue that is common knowledge here in France. Gay advocate?

"The victory goes to whoever can manipulate best". You said it best, Mark.
